Manhattan Ensemble Theater (MET) was founded in 2001 by Dave Fishelson to be a writers' theater, dedicated to producing new works of theater derived from such diverse narrative sources as fiction, journalism, film, and memoir. In so doing, MET hoped to provide a home for the ongoing development of the dramatization as a literary form in American theater. Across the first decade of its existence — whether on Broadway, across the U.S., or in its original space in the heart of NYC's SoHo — MET has presented world, American or New York-premieres to over one million American theatergoers.
